Knight's Fairytale, aka- 'Fae', with her folded wing-like markings as if she too were a mythical fae/fairy creature, was bred for versatility, athleticism, and a solid temperament (both her sire and damsire are known to produce excellent temperaments). Fae's pedigree is 10/16ths Knabbie, with some close Thoroughbred, Hanoverian, & Holsteiner in her pedigree.
Born on Mothers Day, Fae has been up and moving since birth. She spent very little (if any) time at the spindly newborn phase. At only two days old, she's already showcased her athleticism and penchant for jumping- freely going over both a cavalatti and a crossrail during turnout. Fae rarely misses an opportunity to leap over an object, and she also has a lovely modern trot.
She is sired by, COLORADO SKRØDSTRUP, only the 2nd registered and approved stallion in this country, imported in 2006, and one of the only approved and registered Knabstrupper stallions to actively compete at any discipline in the U.S. After coming to the United States, he began training for the jumpers, and placed consistently. At his first "A" rated jumper show (the "Oaks", San Juan Capistrano, California) against very qualified competition, under the show name, 'Fable', he received a second and a third place in the 1.10m against 89 other horses! Colorado then switched careers and trained through 4th Level and competed successfully while with his new owner through 2nd at USDF recognized shows.
In 2010, Colorado made history by becoming the first Knabstrupper stallion in the breed's North American history (and only second in the world to date) to have successfully completed a 70 Day or 100 Day Stallion Testing. He attended the 70 Day Stallion Testing hosted in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and impressed both judges, riders and attendees with his athletic ability and finished 3rd in Dressage and 5th overall against a very impressive group of warmblood stallions.
Colorado is registered and approved with the KNN, Rheinland Pfalz-Saar International/Westfalen NA (Knabstrupper Book I) as well as being the first Knabstrupper stallion approved with Le Cheval de Sport Belge (sBs).
Colorado is double bred Apollon and Ramiro Z.
RAMIRO Z, the international showjumper, has become famous worldwide and is duly called the Euro-stallion of his day. He gave a new dimension to sport horse breeding and is arguably the most influential jumping stallion ever. In a lifespan of thirty years, the "preferent" G Ramiro Z's performance as a sporthorse and breeding sire earned him the titles 'Stallion of the Century' and "King of Sires." His progeny can be described with one word: sublime. He supplied a large number of stallions approved in the Netherlands and abroad as well as an impressive series of fantastic sport horses many of whom have achieved fame. His daughter, the super-mare Ratina Z, is the dream of the show jumping world, winning double Olympic gold medals (1992 and 1996) at the Barcelona Olympics, and the World Cup of 1993. Ramiro's progeny distinguish themselves in dressage as well.
It is simply impossible to mention all his successful progeny. From his first breeding season, came the super mare, Fatinitza, show jumping from victory to victory under Fritz Ligges and Thomas Frühmann, and later mother of the Zangersheide stallion, Almiro Z. Ramiro's second season saw him in Holstein where he produced three stallions: Rinaldo (out of a Trakehner mare), Rio Negro, who became a Grand Prix dressage horse, trained by Willi Schultheis, and Ronald, who was for years the most popular stallion in Holstein, where he sired five licensed sons and more than a hundred top broodmares, many of whom became mothers of sires like Alcatraz, Libero, Lord Incipit, Larno, Le Grand - all exquisite sires and sporthorses. Ronald, like his famous father, went to Holland - where he stood for five years, and sired, among others, the show jumping sire Saluut, the father of the Australian stallion, Salute. Ramiro's influence on the Dutch Warmblood breeding was, and still is, of utmost importance. The Dutch bestowed the title 'Horse of the Year' on Ramiro in 1992. For Leon Melchior's performance breeding program at Zangersheide, Ramiro became the strongest and most successful pillar. Ramiro was one of the first stallions to appear in the sport. During his own sporting career, he had numerous wins at all levels of show jumping - Nations Cups, Puissance (jumping over 2.2 meter!) and in international Grand Prix competition.
His son, REBEL Z, bred by Leon Melchior as the foundation of Zangersheid, Rebel Z was the Full Brother of the legendary mare Ratina Z who is thought by some to be the best show jumper of all time. Rebel Z himself showed internationally and has also produced a significant number of international dressage horses. Rebel's son, Rafealli is Colorado's sire. It's through Rafaelli that Ramiro Z's pedigree shows up twice.
Colorado's maternal grandsire, XANTHOS, competed successfully in dressage in Denmark. He has sired offspring that compete at international level in dressage including ZANKO KNN 134 the multi gold medal winning Paralympic stallion. Xanthos has been awarded a silver medal for his offspring. Many of his sons and grandson have competed at FEI levels.
VPrH APOLLON whom after passing his grading in Denmark, was originally used at stud there. After winning his stallion testing at Vilhelmsborg in 1989, this stallion combined stud duties with a highly successful competition career, winning not only Dressage and Showjumping to M level, but also M Eventing. Because of his quality as stallion he was awarded the Gold Medal as best Knabstrupper stallion at the 1990 Danish Agriculture Fair (equivalent with the German DLG), a rare and distinguished achievement for any horse, let alone a spotted one. In 1995 Apollon appeared on the German Scene and promptly won Premium graded status at the ZfDP grading in Lentföhrden. Just a glance at his pedigree shows that his ability and versatility haven't happened by accident. His sire ZORRO is a Knabstrupper of the modern Sporthorse type and himself a descendant of the famous Arab stallion POMERANETS OX, who also sired the stallion Hockey II (sire of the international showjumper, Almox Prints J). APOLLON himself has already sired nine graded stallions and further proved his importance as a sire with several of his state-premium daughters who have gone on to produce their own licensed sons.
Apollon's dam SYMFONI is superbly bred Trakehner mare by DONAUSCHIMMER, combining such illustrious lines as ABGLANZ and POET XX. A couple of generations back we find the highly rated GUNNAR and the great grandmother SONETT, who produced the famous Trakehner Hessenstein and via him influenced an entire generation of horses.
Apollon is found both top and bottom in Colorado's pedigree.
On her dam side, Fae comes from Haute École bloodlines, with her damsire being the now deceased AMBROSIUS AF ASGARD aka, 'Atlantis', whom was the first Knabstrupper stallion imported to the USA. Approved by both the RPSI & KNN, He received his breeding approval as both a Classic type & Sports type Knabstrupper. Atlantis had a wonderful temperament and scored a perfect 10 for temperament during his licensing. Atlantis competed up to 3rd level Dressage and has also been trained in the Classical/Vaquero style. His foals have received very good to excellent scores at their inspections but more importantly they also inherit his excellent disposition. Her dam, Fanfare de Bec received such a temperament. We've owned her dam since she was 18 months old.
Atlantis' sire, ADONIS AF ASGARD, licensed in 1994 by the ZfdP is a high award-winning HB I Elite stallion and has produced offspring with respectable sporting success, including Champion Foal, Premium Foal, Champion Mare, and Best of Show, with four licensed sons and a licensed grandson confirming him as and extraordinary quality sire. Two of such sons are AUREL OF WENDANDI and ANGELO AF ASGARD.
Adonis's dam, MUDDI, is the full sister to the famous Knabstrupper stallion, HUGIN VON DÄNEMARK whom was ridden by Bent Branderup of The Academic Art of Riding, and his sire is none other than the late great, VPrH APOLLON.
Fairytale's maternal grand dam was a mid-level eventing TB mare by JAVA GOLD XX before retiring as a broodmare. Java Gold is the maternal grandsire to Thoroughbred Baatesh, a successful racehorse and one of only a handful of Thoroughbred stallions to have successfully completed a sporthorse stallion performance test.
With her pedigree containing over 25% thoroughbred, Fae was made for Combined Training. Hunter/Jumper, Dressage, Working Equitation - Fae could easily go in any direction when she's older! Fae was awarded 1st Premium (Sports type) Foal during the 2022 KNN Inspection. She is registered with the Motherbook (KNN) and as such, she is also eligible for approval with Westfalen NA (Knab Book 1) once she has been approved for breeding by the KNN.
Fae's homozygous color will also be a valuable asset for a breeding program, as she is guaranteed to pass on a single copy of the Leopard Complex gene — even when bred to solid stallions— and CSNB* shouldn't affect her quality of life.
Fae has displayed a amateur friendly temperament, with an inquisitive and quietly persistent personality.
*Like all horses with two copies , Fae has Congenital Stationary Night Blindness (CSNB). This means that she has difficulty seeing in low light, and is completely blind at night/in dark environments.
Born on Mothers Day, Fae has been up and moving since birth. She spent very little (if any) time at the spindly newborn phase.
